THE Camelford committee of Cancer Research UK held their 39th AGM at the Fore Street Methodist Church recently.
Mrs Pam Boundy, chairman, welcomed Miss Rachel Turner, local fundraising manager, and the new members of the committee, Mrs Enid Andrews and Mrs Pam Lyons.
Mrs Boundy said that she was pleased that five founder members were still serving on the committee, including Mrs Joan Goodman, who was unable to attend due to illness. She sent the good wishes of all present to Mrs Goodman.
Mrs Boundy said how pleased the committee were that Mrs Lynn Oliver had recovered from her recent accident and extended the best wishes of the committee to Mrs Barbara Hill and said how much she was in everyone’s thoughts.
The chairman thanked the committee for their dedication, loyalty, enthusiasm and hard work during the past year. Finally she thanked individuals and organisations in Camelford and the surrounding district, for their generosity and support over many years.
Miss Madge Walkey, honorary secretary, reported on the year’s activities, which have resulted in another highly successful year, both socially and financially, for the charity, and thanked the local press for publicising the committee’s work
Madge reported that the committee had received a letter from the Queen, thanking them for their kind words sent to her on the occasion of her 90th birthday. As patron, she was grateful for the committee’s thoughtfulness in writing and sending warm, good wishes.
Madge concluded her remarks by saying that the committee were entering a memorable year — their 40th — and hoped that the committee would be able to raise a memorable amount of money.
Mrs Sally Moore, honorary treasurer, gave a very detailed and satisfactory report and then presented Miss Turner with a cheque for £15,500, which she accepted by commenting on the incredible amount of money that had been raised by the committee during the past year. She congratulated the committee on their efforts and also thanked the people of Camelford and district for their continued support.
Miss Turner then said she had a very pleasant duty to perform, and presented Miss Nicky Hill with a ten years’ service badge.
Mrs Boundy, Mrs Moore and Miss Walkey were re-elected as officers. Miss Enid Andrews, Mrs Ang Goodman, Mrs Joan Goodman, Miss Nicky Hill, Mrs Pam Lyons, Mrs Lynn Oliver and Mrs Jan Stratfield were re-elected to serve on the committee.
Miss Turner gave a very comprehensive and interesting resume of the research being funded by Cancer Research UK and stressed the importance of fundraising being done throughout the country in order to finance the research. She concluded her remarks by congratulating the committee on their very successful year.
