THE sound of music, children playing and displays of art crammed Bude's coastline this weekend for the town's first arts and music summer festival. Despite predictions of rain, the sun was shining on Bude Arts And Music Summer festival (BAAM). Around 50 flags decorated by young people fluttered in the sea breeze along the cliff-tops, a fantastic array of colours and designs, leading people down to the festival site of Crooklets Beach. There was music all weekend, arranged by Stuart Marshall. Folk group 'Taking the Piskies' started the day's entertainment, which continued with an outstanding line-up from Big Up Bude Talent Show winner Zola Bridgey, blues maestro Vagrant Rambler and up-and-coming local star Josh Curnow. The music then moved into the main marquee, where Alex Roberts wowed the crowd with his prodigious talent and fine playing. The skata tones kicked up a storm and encouraged the crowd to their feet with a stomping round of ska tracks old and new. Finally local psychedelic funk group SCI23 brought the day to its crescendo with cranking out some superb tunes. OVER at the skate park the Psycho Piskies ran the roller disco, guiding beginners, and introducing a whole host of newbies to the joys of skating, and later in the day local skaters impressed the large crowd again in the Bleedin Knees competition organised by Toby Thorn of Airculture.
