THE Co-operative store at Newport, Launceston, was the venue for a food collection for Launceston Foodbank and 141kg of food was donated by customers over a recent weekend. Foodbank organisers expressed thanks to those who supported the collection and to the management and staff. The Foodbank says it is grateful for any support people can give to help those in crisis. The voucher system in place means the food goes to those in need. The vouchers are issued by the partner agencies such as Launceston Money Advice Centre, which are helping those in financial difficulties, or a doctor/health visitor who can see a person is struggling and may need help, and other organisations able to assist them out of crisis. Launceston College and many of the local schools are also partners, along with Launceston Churches Together, Social Services and Youth Services. Every item donated is recorded by weight and stored in expiry date order to maximise stock usage and eliminate waste wherever possible.
