THE Rotary Club of Bude held the first round of this year’s Youth Speaks competition at Budehaven School on Monday, February 8.

Four teams from the junior schools of Stratton and St Mark’s, Morwenstow, took part; and they all gave superb confident presentations with very clear speech and excellent English.

They spoke on the subjects of: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day; which is best, books or films?; how should we save the Red Wolf?; and why is it important to keep the seas clean?

This year was the closest result of any previous contest — there was only one point between first and second with third and fourth each close behind.

The winners going forward to the next level of competition are the team from Stratton Junior School, who spoke on the subject of ‘Breakfast is the most important meal of the day’.
