A POPULAR charity event has broken all records by raising more than £2,000 for the North Devon Hospice’s outreach centre in Holsworthy, The Long House.
Tatsons Shooting Ground in Pyworthy, held a clay pigeon shooting competition this year in aid of North Devon Hospice’s local outreach centre. It has proved to be the most successful edition of the event so far, with people from across the community rallying to support the cause.
Claire Sherwood, from North Devon Hospice, said: “It was clear how motivated the organisers were to make this such a success.” She added: “It was clear that the guys wanted to make this the biggest and best they’d ever done, and they certainly achieved that!
“They went to great lengths and got the whole community involved to support the event, which was fantastic to see. Local businesses contributed with things such as signage, refreshments and gun cartridges, which meant that even more money could be raised from the event, while lots of generous people donated some amazing raffle prizes too.”
Ms Sherwood continued to say that it was great to see local people supporting a cause that can make such a difference to people in and around the Holsworthy area. She said: “Tatson Shooting Ground have raised money for a variety of charities over the years, but we are delighted that this year they have decided to support North Devon Hospice, because the money will make a difference right here on their doorstep.”
The outreach centre team has been able to provide care and support for those affected by cancer or a life limiting illness, as well as offer support for the families who are also deeply affected. Since opening The Long House last year it has been able to provide more than 1,200 sessions of care to people in the immediate area.
Thanks were extended on the day of the charity clay shooting competition to numerous people and businesses from Holsworthy and the surrounding area that helped contribute to the event.
The team also thanked the family members and friends who helped out, as well as the numerous people who took part.
Ms Sherwood said it was a ‘real team effort and would make a huge difference to those being supported by North Devon Hospice’: “We are here to care for local people, and all our services are provided completely free of charge, but we can only do this thanks to the amazing generosity of the local community. Events like this mean we are able to support patients and families who really need us, so we are incredibly grateful to all involved.”
The Long House is open on Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays. If you would like to find out how to access care and support from North Devon Hospice at The Long House, speak to your GP and ask for a referral. All care is free of charge.
