A ‘SERIES of problems’ in a shop doorway have led Launceston Town Council to support a planning application for a glazed lobby screen.

The application for provision of glazed lobby screen and door to shop entrance and erection of two advertising hanging signs at 2 Chings Alley was discussed by the town council’s planning and economic development committee on Thursday, May 19.

Chair of the committee, Cllr Rob Tremain, said of the site of the application at the meeting: “There have been a series problems with excrement and vomit and all sorts.”

He said the owners wished to put a screen in to ‘alleviate the problems’, adding: “So it won’t be a hideaway when looking up the alleyway.”

Cllr Dave Gordon said he felt the application was acceptable, and town mayor Cllr Brian Hogan added: “I think that area of the town needs to be developed. It could be an important, historic part of the town.”

Deputy mayor Cllr Margaret Young said: “Why should our street cleaner have to clean up somebody else’s muck?”

The application was supported by the committee, but decisions on planning applications are taken by Cornwall Council.
