LIGHT Up Bude and the foodbank, based at Oceans Community Church in the town, received £500 each from the Budehaven ‘Grand Day Out’ sponsored walk recently.
The Light Up Bude committee was presented with a cheque for £500 to go towards the new lights being set around the town.
Budehaven students, Libby and Lilly, presented the cheque to Jools from Light Up Bude, as both students were inspirational in their own fundraising for the walk, raising a staggering £1,000 between them.
As walk organisers, Rob Byrom and Martin Reay, wanted to give some of the funds raised to local charities and Light Up Bude were exactly in their remit. With the school’s donation, the pupils at Budehaven will see a tangible reward at Christmas as they enjoy the display over the festive period.
Libby and Lilly also presented Bude Foodbank with a cheque for £500 to support families at Christmas.
Steve, from the foodbank, said: “The money will go a long way in supporting those struggling over the next few months and will bring a smile to many faces.”
Budehaven also gave a proportion of the money raised from the ‘Grand Day Out’ back in the summer to the Clic Sargent and Bliss charities.
The remainder of the fundraising will be given back to those students at Budehaven on a termly basis, who are putting in consistently high levels of effort across their subjects and contributing positively to the fabric of the school.
This money will be given in the form of Budehaven Achievement Vouchers and will be redeemable in affiliated local shops in the town.
