To mark their 10th anniversary, Taylor & Co Hair Studio in Lamphey recently held a week of fundraising events for Macmillan Cancer Support. Through the efforts of the salon team, supported by the local Macmillan committee and local businesses, Taylor & Co raised the sum of £2,153.19.

Nigel Taylor, Taylor & Co's owner, explained how a little birthday celebration turned into an ambitious week of fundraising.

"Back in 2005 when we were working hard to open the salon, my wife Mandy was also travelling back and forth to London, where her sister Sue was facing the end of her battle with cancer. Throughout those final weeks and days, Sue was supported brilliantly by Macmillan nurses, which meant that she could return home for her final days. Just 10 days after the salon opened, Sue passed away. So, as happy as we were to be celebrating our 10th anniversary as a business, we would also be thinking about Sue. It seemed right to us to use our birthday party to raise funds to help Macmillan to continue with their excellent work, and we've been delighted with the support given to us by many local businesses, friends and salon customers to make this week such a success."

The special week of events started with a dinner at Lamphey Hall Hotel where diners enjoyed a delicious meal, a fun raffle and an auction for some special items. That evening alone raised £1,000.

Two days later, there was a quiz night at the Freshwater Inn, where the questions were called by the Mayor of Pembroke, Clr. Pauline Waters, and quizzers competed for both prizes and glory, as well as another raffle.

Finally, the week culminated in a relaxed garden party at the salon, with music provided by The Jumping Fleas, and tea and cakes served by the Macmillan committee. Despite a splash or two of rain, the afternoon went well, and there was a wealth of prizes on offer for the final raffle of the week.

All of these events, along with some generous donations from customers and friends, contributed to the final grand total.

Taylor & Co and Macmillan would like to express their thanks to all who contributed to the week, whether by buying raffle tickets, donating a prize or making a donation.

On behalf of the Pembrokeshire committee of Macmillan Cancer Support, chair Pauline Davies expressed her gratitude for the effort that Nigel and Mandy put into raising such a large amount of money. Thanks must also go to the Mayor of Pembroke, Clr. Pauline Waters, who acted as quiz master for the event in Freshwater East.
