The event commenced at 2pm and offered 20-minute taster sessions of all the therapies that are offered at Shine, including massage, reiki, readings, crystal healings, holistic and botanical facials, physiotherapy, sports massage, facial acupuncture as well as blow-drys and gel nails.
A raffle was held on the night and prizes included vouchers for hair and therapies. Lots of vouchers and prizes were kindly donated by local businesses. Prosecco and goody bags were given to those who booked a treatment.
Everyone had a good time, both those giving tasters and clients receiving them ,according to the feedback that was given. A total of £2,620 was raised, which the team were proud of as this was Shine’s first charity event.
Salon owner Kathleen Mills was pleased with how the event went, adding: “I can’t thank the Shine team and all the therapists enough for giving up their time, skills and working so hard to make it a success, you are all amazing. So many local businesses have been very generous with donations for the raffle which has also helped to create this fabulous sum of money, many thanks. Not forgetting all of the people that came along to support this day, very much appreciated. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.”
Steph Jones-Giles, chair of Bude Animal Friends, who received half of the proceeds, said: “Bude Animal Friends are so very grateful to be chosen as joint beneficiaries of this fundraising event. It was extremely well supported and the atmosphere was buzzing from the start. The whole team at Shine donated their time, skills and all products to the event and I personally received three excellent treatments. The raffle was well supported by local businesses and the Prosecco flowed — a lovely touch to provide a buffet and glass of fizz.
“The £1,310 received will be gifted out so many individuals and groups will benefit. On this occasion we have chosen to share it with Born to be Wild, Hilltop Animal Haven, BDMLR, Project Prickles Hedgehog Rescue and Animal Free Research UK (Bude group supporting diabetes research at Exeter University Medical School). An excellent event, superbly executed. Well done Kath and team Shine!”
