TWO Cornish charities will benefit from the next Bude Metric Brass Band Together concert, which will be held at Penstowe Manor, Kilkhampton, on Saturday, February 25.
The concert will once again be for the benefit of the Bude Sea Pool and Cornwall Air Ambulance.
Bude Metric Brass Band secretary, Alan Lafferty, said: “Earlier this year we raised £1,000 for each of the two charities at the Band Together concert, and we hope to raise even more in 2017.
“We are grateful to have received two grants for Kilkhampton and Bude from the Cornwall Foundation, which has enabled us to purchase some new instruments, and we are pleased that these will be used for the first time in public at the concert.”
Musical director, Colin Gay, has again chosen a varied and challenging programme for the musicians.
He was asked if he could include more Cornish music, and has chosen the traditional tune The White Rose, and this is complemented by Goff Richard’s composition The Padstow Lifeboat.
Local talent is featured too, with an arrangement of Palladio by Metric Band cornetist Graham Pitt, and by Colin’s own arrangement of Fellowship of the Ring.
He said: “For the finale I have chosen Dies Irae from Verdi’s Requiem Mass. This famous piece, also known as ‘Day of Wrath’, is sure to make the audience sit up and listen. It is used in countless TV and film appearances, and is a rewarding, but taxing, workout for the entire band.”
Tickets for the concert are available from any band member or from The Ark Angel Bookshop in Bude, and Gilbert and Vanstone in Kilkhampton, and cost £10 each with free admission for children under 16.
There will be a prize raffle, a lucky programme draw, and a licenced bar which will be open throughout the concert.
