WHEN members of staff in the English Department of Budehaven Community School read an article about a book based in Bude, they were very excited.

It told of a novel for children and young teenagers written by BBC Radio 2 broadcaster Simon Mayo, the setting for which is based on the small town on the rugged north coast of Cornwall.

Simon had spent childhood holidays in Bude which inspired him to set his novel, Itch, in a 'generic' Cornwall.

"The smells, images and the sunset are all Bude," Mr Mayo had explained in the article.
