THE chair of the League of Friends for Cornwall has been awarded an MBE for services to the community. Candy Baker, who is also the chair for the League of Friends of Stratton Hospital, celebrated being in the Queen's Birthday Honours List with fellow residents of Marhamchurch at their popular weekly coffee morning at Bray Hall. A celebration cake had been made to mark the award. The MBE is in recognition of her work with the Kernow Clinical Commissioning Group and Peninsula Community Health as well as for her work to spearhead an appeal to raise £1-million for Stratton Hospital. The figure raised over the past three years currently stands at almost £650,000. When asked how she felt on receiving her letter, Mrs Baker said: "It was a total shock. When I saw the words 'Cabinet Office' I wondered what I'd done wrong!" For the full report, and a round up of the area news and sport, see this week's edition of the Post.
