THERE will be plenty of family fun as the Bude Lifeboat Weekend is set to continue this August bank holiday, starting on Saturday, August 27.

The event will include a charity tabletop sale and Bude Metric Brass band will play during the day, followed by a quiz and music night in the evening.

The event raises crucial funds for the RNLI, which not only contributes to the running of Bude’s lifeboats, but the lifeguards who provide vital advice and assistance to those using local beaches throughout the summer months.

ON Sunday, August 28, the weekend will continue with entertainment from midday until late. The Bencoolen Wreckers will make an appearance as well as the Tintagel Orpheaus Male Voice Choir and Champagne Chorus who will both play at an evening concert on the castle grounds.

The main event of this fantastic weekend will be on Monday, August 29, or ‘Lifeboat Day’, as its known. There will be a plethora of events and activities, which begin at 9.30am. The events will run throughout the day, finishing off with a spectacular firework finale — weather permitting.

Lifeboat Day will take place on the castle grounds and around the canal. Full details are available on a souvenir brochure supplied at the lifeboat shop and various outlets in the town.

Highlights of the day will include dance performances by CJ’s School of Dance and Amanda Brook School of Dance, Bideford Youth Pipe Band, the Duck Race, family evening with a disco and live music, and not to be missed is the search and rescue demonstration at Summerleaze Beach.

After saying a fond farewell to the Search and Rescue helicopter from RMB Chivenor last year, Bude lifeboat is looking forward to welcoming the new Maritime and Coastguard Agency helicopter, which, subject to operational requirements, will be joining Bude’s inshore lifeboat for the demonstration at 3pm.

The Bude lifeboat fundraising committee and crew have been working hard behind the scenes to hold the Bude Lifeboat Weekend, which promises to be a fun time for all those who visit, to raise vital funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute, the charity that saves lives at sea.

If anyone would like to help out during the event, even just for a couple of hours, they are welcome to leave their details at the lifeboat shop.

Those in charge of running the event look forward to seeing everyone over the weekend.
