SWANSKIN Printmakers’ annual show in Bude opens in the Willoughby Gallery on Saturday, November 12.
The exhibition will run seven days a week until Thursday, December 1, and will be open from 10am until 4pm at the Willoughby Gallery in the Castle, Bude.
The gallery was created by Bude-Stratton Town Council in 2007, and is a beautiful, white and light room that shows varied professional work throughout the year.
The collective called ‘Swanskin’ is a group of artists, who all use handmade printmaking and etching within their art practice, continuing to develop and explore a range of print processes.
It is the group’s ‘mission’ to present to the public the extraordinarily diverse nature of the medium of printmaking, used by printmakers and fine artists.
Fine art printmaking is the process of creating original artworks printing by hand or using a press. It includes etching, lino cuts and silk screen printmaking. These can be limited editions, where each image is signed and numbered. A number of artists in this group make monoprints by a range of processes, traditional and modern. These can include handprinted images within other work.
Swanskin was formed by printmaker, Sophie Fordham. Showing this year are Sophie, Jacqui Harris, Karen Howse, Helen Murgatroyd, Maddy Meadon, faith Chevannes, Hayley Wrigley and Gabrielle Goodchild.
The other gallery is the Blanchminster Room, showing ‘Over the Border’ curated by Dave King.
Meet the artists of both shows on Sunday, November 13 from 1pm until 3pm. Café Limelight will also be open, as will the Heritage Centre.
This event is promised to be a wonder-filled Sunday in the life of the Castle, Bude.
