HUNDREDS of people made their way into Bude on Bank Holiday Monday to see the Castle Green burst into a blaze of riotous colour.

Over 1,500 handmade flowers covered the lawns. Made of re-cycled rubbish, flotsam and jetsam, tissue paper, and garden sticks donated by Brooks Garden Centre, the number was matched by variety.

Many of the flowers had been made by local children from Stratton, Marhamchurch, Bude Infants and Bude Junior Primary Schools but many were also made by individuals who brought theirs along on the day.

Anna Worthington, of Bude Arts and Music (BAAM), said: "From afar, the host of flowers resembled the carefully-planted garden of a stately home."
