A GOLF day organised by the Carriers Inn Golf Society has managed to raise £350 towards Amy's Walk, a locally organised two-day fund-raising walk in aid of Sam's House in Bristol. The annual event involved teams of four playing 18 holes of the picturesque setting of Roserrow Country Club, near Perranporth, with a dinner back at the Carriers Inn afterwards.
The Carriers Golf Society organiser Mr Tony James said: "The money is raised by the resident 'Fine Master' Mr Chunky Philp. He fines the members that played for stupid things that they did while out on the course. The society always donates the money raised to a local worthy cause and this year it was decided that the money would go to help Amy's Walk."
Amy's Walk is organised by Jacqui Peirce, from Bude, in memory of local girl Amy Thorold, who sadly lost her battle against leukaemia just less that one year ago.
Amy and her family were kindly supported during the treatment by Sam's House,' a CLIC Sargent Home from Home in Bristol.
Sam's House, provides supported accommodation to families of children and young people across the South West, who are being treated for cancer and leukaemia and the House alone costs £100,000 to run each year.
The weekend event starts with a walk along part of the Camel Trail from Wadebridge to Padstow on Saturday, June 26, with a fund raising event and hog-roast at Inn on the Green in the evening. On Sunday, 27th, there is a beautiful coastal canal walk starting at the Brendon Arms along the dramatic Bude coastline, down to the recently renovated canal path and finishing back at the Carriers.
Jacqui said: "Everyone is welcome to join in the fund raising and we look forward to raising a large sum of money for this very worthwhile local charity."
Anyone interested in joining in with the walk or the fundraising can pick up a walk registration form from the Carriers Inn on the Strand or contact Jacqui directly on 01288 352608.
