A BUDE car cleaning business held a charity car wash recently, in order to raise money for a local project.

Joe, Sarah and Amelia Cox from JC49 Car Cleaning, held a car wash to raise money for the Bude ReFill Shop recently at Sam Edwards Garage, who donated the venue for free.

Bude ReFill Shop is a local project being led by a group of people who want to bring a sustainable shop to the town, which is looking to reduce the overall consumption of single-use plastics that are so often made available through the chain supermarkets.

The car wash was ‘an absolute success’, according to Joe, raising £147 overall, of which he was able to present £100 to the organisers of the project.

He said: “Many thanks to everyone who supported us on the day and making us raise so much money for helping out such an amazing community cause.

“There were smiles all round, laughter and people making friends and getting to know more people in Bude. We chose to support the ReFill Shop because it’s an idea, which could really benefit Bude on saving on waste and plastic.

“As the Bude community strives to clean Bude of plastic and rubbish, why not help a fundraiser whose idea is to open a shop to do just that?”

l THE team behind a sustainable shop for Bude has reached its fundraising target.

With the conclusion of the crowdfunder, the team’s target had been exceeded and £12,690 was raised towards a new zero-waste shop for Bude.

During the fundraising campaign, the team was grateful to receive donations from the public and numerous local businesses who paid £100 each to sponsor a hopper, of which will store sustainable products in the shop.

The ReFill Shop will stock loose products such as grains, rice, pasta and more, and will even offer toiletry products. Customers will be required to either bring tubs and jars from home to fill, or purchase what they need in the jars and bags available in-store.

The shop will aim to reduce waste by diminishing needless packaging and encouraging customers to take what they need.

Refill shops are becoming more frequent in society today, following media attention to the harm caused to marine wildlife by single-use plastics and manmade waste.

The stores aim to reduce the amount of waste in households and encourage people to be sustainable and mindful of their consumption of single-use plastics. The ReFill Shop is hoped to be open in April. To find out more about the ReFill Shop Bude project, like and follow their Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages.
