MASSES of local residents and visitors turned out for the annual Camelford Christmas lights switch-on, with organisers praising efforts to help bring the community together.

On Saturday, November 26, following a superb senior citizens’ Christmas lunch earlier in the day, the procession began at 6pm, starting at Clease car park in Camelford.

Crowds were provided with glow sticks, as they watched the parade, led by the Camelford Town Band and special guests to the town, two beautiful reindeer.

The lights were switched on by local lady Nancy Lane, as well as the Camelford carnival queen Savanna Mc’Connell and a Camelford carnival attendant Sienna Harris, who all plunged the town into an array of sparkly, festive colours.

The lights switch-on was followed by an incredible firework display, enjoyed by all and praised highly on the local Facebook group, LoveCamelford, especially with the appearance of a video, filmed by a drone, which captured the real celebration and spirit of the firework display.

Kirsty Ferguson, chair of the Camelford events working group, was delighted with the evening.

She said: “A highlight for me was the sense of a buzz of community spirit — this is the best night that Camelford offers, and it was great to see everyone come together to enjoy it.

“Thanks to all of the lighting team, who have worked throughout the year, and to all who lend a hand for the events in the town.”

Kirsty has assured residents that the fireworks will go ahead next year, but the events group will need to find a different venue.
