SIR JAMES Smith's Community School, Camelford, held its first carol service at Lanteglos Church on Tuesday, December 16.

An invitation went out to all Year 7 students and their parents. The response from everyone was fantastic and the church was filled to capacity with parents, students and members of staff.

Rev Jim Benton-Evans welcomed everyone at the start of the evening. There was a packed programme of carols, with which everyone was able to join in.

Students contributed to music and drama performances and the students also helped to decorate the church. Several members of staff read various poems and readings. The scent of mulled wine pervaded the air and added to the warm ambience of the Church itself. The mulled wine was enjoyed by everyone at the end of the evening, together with a mince pie.

Jan Man, Subject Leader of Music, said: "A sense of community and Christmas spirit was truly evident. It was such a success that it is going to be an annual feature."
