PARKING in Camelford's Churchfield Car Park is to remain free at the point of entry.

The subject of car parking was again examined at the Camelford Town Council meeting on Tuesday, March 16.

Parking — and whether or not to look at the re-introduction of charges in the car park — was recently discussed by the council's amenities committee, which recommended that the status quo be maintained.

Mayor of Camelford, Cllr Brian Lush said the council had spent much time debating the subject and he also noted the recommendation of the amenities committee. He proposed that the status quo — free parking — be retained and the matter be re-examined by the amenities committee to investigate the possibility of dividing the car park into short term and long term sections.

Cllr Andy Shaw queried whether the status quo should remain forever more, but it was agreed that the subject could be raised again in compliance with Standing Orders in six months' time.

The proposal was seconded by Cllr Bob Ireland. Five councillors voted in favour and one abstained from the vote.
