THE Camelford area was hit particularly badly by the second spell of the ‘beast from the east’.
The snow made the main road through the town particularly treacherous, resulting in three accidents, causing damage to vehicles.
Churchfield car park was also confirmed to be closed on Monday, due to the risk posed, and many local people took to the Facebook page ‘Love Camelford’ to warn others of the icy and dangerous conditions.
On Monday, many children in and around Camelford — perhaps to their delight — had another snow day.
Schools including Sir James Smith’s School, Boscastle Community Primary School, Camelford Primary School, Delabole Community Primary School, North Cornwall APA in Delabole, Otterham Community Primary School, Port Isaac Community Primary School, St Breward Community Primary School, St Kew ACE Academy, St Teath CP School and Tintagel Primary School were all closed.
Natalie Bartlett, who lives in Davidstow, said many people in the village had been completely snowed in.
She said: “We’re stuck up here and have got no chance of getting out at all. Just took a walk out the drive, the snow is up to my knees. I wouldn’t attempt coming up Davidstow unless you have a 4x4 or tractor.”
In the centre of town, a group of people gathered together to help move stuck vehicles, including a Cathedral City lorry, and clear cars to allow a snow plough to enter the road ahead.
As some enjoyed a snow day in Camelford, including children and dogs, many found themselves stuck or unable to get to work due to the conditions of the roads.
Devon and Cornwall Police issued warnings and advised people to only travel if it was safe to do so and absolutely necessary.
