CALLINGTON drivers face five nights of disruption as Church Street closes for urgent carriageway repairs.

Church Street will close from today (Monday, September 7) as work gets under way to repair the road surface.

The overnight closure will be in place from 7pm until 4am each weekday night, with the work expected to take up to five nights.

Drivers will not be able to travel through the roadworks during the closure and will need to follow signed diversion routes.

Residents and businesses will still be able to access the area, but they have been warned to expect delays. Traffic marshals will be stationed at access points and will help people safely enter or leave the works.

Motorists have also been issued with a stark warning about parking.

A Clearway Parking Zone will operate along the full length of the works during working hours. Any vehicles left in signed areas could be towed away, with charges applying for their recovery.

Designated parking bays in the area will also be suspended while the repairs are carried out.

Cormac, working on behalf of Cornwall Council, will operate the Clearway under the Traffic Management Act 2004 to prevent parked vehicles from obstructing the works.

Signs will be placed ahead of the closure to direct through traffic along suitable diversion routes and reduce disruption as much as possible.

Residents and businesses affected by the closure have been contacted ahead of the work.

Anyone whose vehicle is removed from the Clearway will need to contact 0300 1234 222 to arrange its collection, with charges applying.

Emergency access will be maintained throughout the works.

Drivers are being urged to allow extra time for journeys, follow diversion signs and comply with instructions from traffic marshals while the repairs are completed.
