It’s been an exciting and busy time for members of Holsworthy detachment of Devon Army Cadet Force (ACF).

On August 8 cadets and three adult instructors travelled to Nescliffe Training Camp in Shropshire as part of the Devon ACF County annual camp.

Hillwalking climbing watersports full bore shooting and a three-day blank firing exercise ensued and for some of the group a once in a lifetime flight in an army chinook helicopter.

Meanwhile LCpl Squirrell (14) travelled to Bavaria as part of a county overseas visit enjoying adventurous training and some fantastic mountain views.

Towards the end of August, a team of cadets assisted at The Holsworthy Show supervising gates parking cars and litter sweeping the showground as part of cadet community engagement volunteering.

Following on from the show was a coffee morning at Holsworthy Memorial Hall run by the cadets and raising £218 for detachment funds.

Fourteen cadets will be heading to Okehampton camp in September for an assessment weekend.

During the first two weeks of October the detachment will be open to new recruits and if your child is interested please go to www.armycadets.com and follow the “join as a cadet” pathway to register them on the waiting list no later than Monday, October 16.
