IT was a busy day in the WI tent, with success at last for the St Stephens WI when they picked up the award for ‘Best Corporate Stand’.

Val Bugden-Cawsey, president of St Stephens WI, said: “Wow, what a wonderful Launceston Show this year, and contrary to the weather forecast a super day was had by all who attended.

“As president of St Stephens by Launceston WI, I was thrilled to learn that for the first time in many years we had won the WI Corporate Stand Competition with our entry, ‘a toy shop window’. Several members had participated in making and assembling our entry and there was stiff competition from the other five WIs who had participated.”

One St Stephen’s WI member, who is relatively new to the group, came away with top marks. Louise Finn recently joined the St Stephens WI group and was delighted when her lion cake received top marks from the judges. Val said: “A new member, Louise Finn, got top marks for her lion cake, which the judge said was ‘faultless’, and so it was.”

She added: “Well done to all my members who helped in any way, this is what team work is all about and that is at the heart of the ethos of the WI organisation.”
