THE Launceston Male Voice Choir has performed no fewer than seven engagements during the past two months, including three concerts with other Cornish choirs.
They joined with the Launceston Choral Society for their summer concert and also with the Tamar Valley Choir, in Stoke Climsland Church, for a memorable occasion in support of a fund raising event for Cancer Research UK — over £1,200 was raised.
Earlier in July Launceston had provided over 40 choristers, the largest contingent from any choir, to the Cornish Federation major concert event at the Plymouth Pavilions, before an audience of more than 2,000.
They have also sung at celebrations in Holsworthy Beacon and Lifton, as well as giving a concert in Egloskerry Church, to raise much needed funds for church repairs.
The choir said they ‘have been very grateful for the way they have been received’.
They hold weekly Wednesday practices and these will continue in preparation of a return visit to Poundstock Parish Church later in September.
On Saturday, October 15, the choir has been invited to hold a concert to sing at this year’s ‘Poppy Day’ launch by the Devon Branch of the Royal British Legion at Dartington Hall, Totnes, where a capacity audience of almost 300 is expected.
The repertoire of the choir has been extended recently with new pieces, as well as re-visiting popular items that have been ‘resting’ for some time.
On November 19, the choir will be hosting a gala concert at Launceston Central, where around 120 choristers, from five neighboring choirs, are performing a concert to celebrate the 15th anniversary of The Addington Fund’s foundation — tickets for this event will be available shortly from choir members.
The choir already has engagements for 2017, which includes a joint concert with the famous Mousehole Male Choir in March, to celebrate Wesley Day, and the Launceston Hospital League of Friends. The choir are always ready to support local Cornwall and Devon organisations in any specific fundraising events.
