THE branch manager of RGB Building Supplies in Launceston retired on Thursday, April 18 after 50 years of working with tradesmen and women in the region.
Tony Jackman began his career in the builders merchant industry in 1969 with Devon Trading and was subsequently employed by Bradfords Building Supplies and Jewsons. He later joined RGB in 2002 as the branch manager of the Launceston depot, where he has been based until his retirement.
During his time with the company, Tony was instrumental in establishing RGB’s chain of custody procedures and increasing its presence in North Cornwall with the launch of its Bodmin branch.
Tony commented: “I’ve been asked on a number of occasions what I like about my job and it’s simply that RGB is a good company to work for. “Throughout my time at the Launceston branch, I’ve enjoyed building friendships with colleagues and suppliers, and developing long-lasting relationships with trade and retail customers.”
Tony, who lives in Tavistock, is looking forward to enjoying his retirement.
He added: “I certainly won’t miss the 5.30am starts, but will definitely miss the RGB team, especially at the Launceston branch. My partner and I have a grandson who is about to start a professional rugby career, so I suspect a lot of our time will be travelling around watching him play. We also have some DIY projects planned, so will no doubt be popping back to the branch to pick up supplies and say hello to the team.”
Kevin Fenlon, CEO at RGB Building Supplies, initially started working with Tony in the late 1980s when they were both sales representatives for Bradfords Building Supplies. He said: “I have worked with Tony in the merchanting industry for a number of years, and I’d like to thank him for the contribution he has made to RGB’s success. He has been a much-liked and key member of our team, as well as the team of tradespeople in the Launceston area. Everyone at RGB wishes Tony the very best in his retirement, and we look forward to welcoming him back to the branch as a customer!”
Adam Davis will now take over the role of branch manager at RGB Launceston. Adam joined RGB in 2005 and has developed extensive experience by undertaking a number of roles at RGB branches across the region.
