BUDE residents could be saying goodbye to the town’s Pitch and Putt after Bude-Stratton Town Council has announced that it is inviting tenders for the leasehold tenancy.

In 2019, Bude-Stratton Town Council officially marked the launch of the town’s Pitch and Putt based on Summerleaze Downs. For many, it was welcomed news after there had been years of discussions involving the site, however, only six years on, the council is now looking for potential alternatives for the space.

The council has announced that it is inviting tenders for the leasehold tenancy of the Pitch and Putt facility and Pavilion building located on Crooklets Road, with the property available for immediate occupation.

While applicants can choose to continue the running of the golfing site, tenders are also being accepted for alternative leisure options.

A spokesperson for the council explained: “Applicants have the option not to operate the Pitch and Putt golf facility; however, due to its unique location on Summerleaze Downs, the use of the building must comply with strict requirements. The building and land must be used for “leisure” purposes.”

The site consists of the Pitch and Putt facility and Pavilion, public and staff toilets, a storage area, and a single parking space.

The council has stated that any proposal that does not include the operation of the Pitch and Putt must clearly set out how requirements will be met.

It has also added that tenders cannot be accepted for proposals that relate solely to a private commercial enterprise.

With tender forms required to be submitted no later than 12pm on Wednesday, November 26, residents are being left asking what the future holds for the Pitch and Putt space.
