On Thursday, February 8, Budehaven Community School celebrated World Book Day in style.

“There was an amazing buzz around the school,” and “this has been the best day of the year so far,” were just some of the comments from students.

So many diverse characters from Miss Havisham and Lady Macbeth to Jaws and the Oompa-Loompas, were seen stalking the corridors.

Mask making workshops, a photo booth, book hunt and Harry Potter style tuck shop were all part of the fun, along with competitions, a reading relay and a game of quidditch at lunch time.

Dom Wilkes, Headteacher at Budehaven said: “I was delighted to see so many pupils (and staff) dressed-up as their favourite literary characters, all very excited about a day entirely dedicated to reading around the world.

“This is part of our huge drive to ensure every child in school is a reader, who enjoys reading in a whole range of situations, being able to access the wider world and build cultural capital through their ability to read, write and speak fluently.”
