IN RECENT weeks, young people of all ages have been involved in various competitions organised by the Rotary Club of Bude.
In the Youth Speaks public speaking competition the winners in the junior category were St Mark’s School, Morwenstow, who spoke passionately about the pressures of being a teenager today, while in the intermediate section the winning team from Budehaven College discussed eloquently the good and bad sides of the internet. Both teams will represent Bude in the area round in Barnstaple, later this month.
In the young photographer competition, budding photographers were asked to submit photographs on the theme of ‘reflection’.
This is the first time the club has organised this particular competition and the judges were most impressed with the quality and variety of responses, which is hoped to be built on in years to come.
Freya Harman’s entry particularly impressed and as the winner of the intermediate category, she will represent Bude in the next round.
Two students from Budehaven’s sixth form have been selected to take part in the Rotary Young Leaders event in Okehampton later this year. Sponsored by Bude Rotary Club, they will be subjected to a week-long, demanding ‘outward bound’ type’ course, designed to help challenge and develop potential future leaders in the community.
The club wishes to thank all participants, along with the schools and parents who encouraged them to enter.
