A TEAM of military personnel selected from the South West, carried out the Welsh 3000 over the month of September, raising money for the Royal British Legion Bude branch.
The money was handed over to the vice chairman, Godfrey W Harrison.
The army team consisted of instructors Cpl Wheadon and mountain leader L/Cpl Wilson, Sgt Taylor, L/Cpl Mitchell, Pte Taylor and Pte Venter. The challenge started out on the Saturday morning with a full breakfast, then the morning briefs and a full kit check. Once checked, the communications radio was switched on and the team was off.
The next time the support team made eye-to-eye contact was on the Sunday evening, with Cpl Wheadon claiming it was demanding at stages. The experience of the team ensured it was more comfortable.
The weather played its part. The route back to camp was filled with breath-taking scenery, and the whole team crossed the finishing line without injury.
The idea for the challenge came from Cpl Wheadon and L/Cpl Wilson as they are used to working as a team in the military, and, of course, they also have the necessary experience on the ground.
Cpl Wheadon extended thanks to L/Cpl Wilson for his support, the rest of the team for their support, and the public for their kind donations.
