MIKE Keat (Bude) and Andrew James (Truro) followed their runner up position in the National Indoor Tennis Championships to win the title at the recent British Open Veterans Clay Court Championships Over 65's, at Bournemouth last weekend.
Their best performance was in the semi final to defeat 2nd seeds George Copeland (Scotland) and Roger Ambrose (Surrey). Coming from a slow start, losing the first set 3-6, they stormed through to win the next 6-0 and completed the rout with a 6-0 final set.
They won the final convincingly 6-2, 6-2 against surprising finalists Peter Friedman and Trevor Rayner (Hants).
In the singles, Mike disappointingly lost a very winnable match against D Trew, the No 8 seed, 6-7, 0-6 but Andrew James put in a very creditable performance, losing 1-6, 4-6 to Peter Adrigan (Germany) the No 1 seed and world ranked No 2.
