CHRIS Bale, from Bude, has, once again, dazzled local residents with his Christmas lights in an aim to raise money for charity.

Chris, known locally for his fundraising contributions to different charities, annually switches on a bright, colourful, festive array of Christmas lights at his home at 4 West Park Road in Bude — not only creating a fun, wintry atmosphere for passers by and neighbours, but raising money for charity.

This year, Chris has decided to fundraise for Cancer Research UK, allowing people visiting to take a glimpse at the lights to drop a donation into the charity bucket.

He said: “I’ve always raised money for a charity through the lights over the years, but over the last couple of the years, I have chosen to raise money for Cancer Research UK.”

Chris and his lights committee, which includes Mary Rogers and Mary Bromell, choose not to set a fundraising target; instead gently encourage people to donate what they can to the cause, and hope for a generous sum to hand over to the charity.

The Christmas lights were put up on Saturday, December 10, and they will be available to view until New Year’s Day.

He added: “People are just getting to know them at the moment, as they only went up a couple of weekends ago. People just pop a donation in out of good will.”

Chris is encouraging people to visit his home in Bude, in an aim to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK. He added: “It’s a lovely display, and the main thing is raising money for Cancer Research UK.

“If we only raise 50p, it’s 50p they wouldn’t have had, so anything is a bonus.”

Chris’ son, Robin, and his family, have also joined in on the Christmas lights fun. Robin’s home on Primrose Road is lit up with Christmas lights and he is also fundraising for Cancer Research UK, after his close friend and neighbour, T J McKinley, lost his battle with cancer.
