A TEAM of Bude residents are to embark on a two day sponsored walk to raise money for CLIC.

Jacqui Peirce, who lives at Crooklets, Bude, came up with the idea, after meeting Amy Thorold, a young lady with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

Jacqui has her car serviced at Sam Edwards Garage in Bude, which is run by Amy's father, Tony, and is where Jacqui met Amy.

In July 2007, Amy, aged 23, suddenly became very ill and was diagnosed with leukaemia. Amy was a fit, pretty, healthy young woman and she's been fighting the disease ever since.

Jacqui said: "I have nothing but admiration for Amy, and the plight of Amy and other sufferers like her is a constant reminder to those of us who are healthy, how lucky we are.

"I wanted to do something to help Amy and thought of the idea of a sponsored walk to raise money for her, so that when she's well enough, she could go on a lovely holiday. Amy was delighted but rejected any idea of money for herself, and instead wants any money raised to go to 'Sam's House,' which is a CLIC home from home."

The fun walk will take place over two days on Saturday, July 4 and Sunday, July 5. On the Saturday, the walkers will cover the Camel Trail from Wadebridge to Padstow and back, while on Sunday they will walk the cliff path from Morwenstow to Bude.

Saturday's walkers and their families and friends are invited to attend a barbecue at Crooklets in the evening to raise further funds, and on Sunday the walkers expect to reach the Brendon Arms for much needed refreshment at 5pm.
