BUDE Coastguard Rescue Team was recently tasked to assist Hartland Coastguard Search and Rescue Team on the rescue of casualties stranded on the cliffs at Welcombe Mouth.
On Sunday, February 12 Bude Coastguard Rescue Team were paged just before 8pm, which happened to be the team’s third call out within five hours that day, and tasked to back up Hartland Coastguard Search and Rescue Team, following reports of two casualties stranded on the rocks at Welcombe Mouth.
Rescue 924, the coastguard rescue helicopter based in Newquay, was also tasked to the scene.
Upon the Bude team’s arrival, Rescue 924 was preparing to winch the casualties from the rocks, so the crew made their way up the hill to the south of Welcombe to find a suitable field for a helicopter landing site, in case Rescue 924 decided to land and release the casualties.
However, paramedics aboard Rescue 924 decided it was necessary to fly the two casualties to North Devon District Hospital. After the helicopter had left, all rescue teams were stood down.
