AFTER the huge disappointment of losing their People's Millions Lottery bid to Dawlish last Tuesday, Bude CATS (Community Action Through Sport) were amazed to learn that they had been voted runners up in the competition. The stunned Year 7 group gathered in the hall at Budehaven Community School on Friday, where a cheque for £38,540 was presented to the co- founders of the scheme, Mrs Denise May, Director of Sport and Assistant Headteacher at the school and Chief Inspector Julie Whitmarsh, by a crew from Westcountry Television. CATS was created in May, 2005, in a bid to encourage positive behaviour and attitudes in young people through the presentation of sports based awards. More than 1,000 youngsters have been nominated since then and nominations are now being taken for the next awards cerermony in May, 2008. SEE THE BUDE & STRATTON POST FOR FULL STORY, PLUS PICTURE.
