A BUSINESSWOMAN based in Bude has had her environmental work recognised at a recent awards ceremony.

Avril Greenaway is the co-founder of Cleaner Seas, an organisation which hopes to use innovation to “make a real and tangible impact on the future of our planet.”

However, most recently, Avril has been recognised at this year’s West Country Women Awards, achieving the ‘Green Business of the Year Award.’  The category hopes to honour a business that focuses on the positive connection between entrepreneurial success and sustainable actions through effective solutions.

Speaking to the Post about her success, Avril said: “Recognition in Westcountry Womens Awards means the world to me and represents many years of hard work as an ocean advocate, focused on the health of our oceans and waterways.

“It was an honour to be in the same category as the other finalists and it must have been difficult for the LHC Design judges to pick one winner.

“The awards were announced at the West Country Women’s Awards Gala night at the Crowne Plaza in Plymouth. I took my mum, which was wonderful and a lovely way to celebrate being a finalist. Winning my category made it an even more amazing evening, celebrating with my children and family on our return.”
