A BUDE man has donated his prize money to a environmental records centre after winning an award.
Biological Recording student Alan Rowland, who is studying the Certificate in Higher Education (Cert HE) at Duchy College Rosewarne, picked up the 'Paradise Park Barnaby Award for Outstanding Contribution to Native Species Conservation in Cornwall, along with a cheque payable to a chosen project of his choice.
Alan has donated the £100 cheque to the Environmental Records Centre of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (ERCCIS).
He said: "I volunteer once a week at ERCCIS and decided to give them the money because I want it to be used for the benefit of recording — to train or encourage new and existing recorders.
"To me this is the most important part of the conservation process, recording what is to be found and where, because without it the rest of the process doesn't work. The centre records all the flora and fauna found on Cornwall and the Isle of Scilly and this is so important for environmental research."
