DURING the weekend of April 17 – 18, members of Bude Explorer Scouts took part in the 'Coast 2 Coast' challenge, a walk organised by Mid-Cornwall District Scouts.
The challenge takes place every April, consisting of Scout groups from all over the county taking part in a walk across Cornwall, starting and finishing somewhere different every year. This is the fifth year Bude Explorers have taken part. The Explorer team started from Par on Saturday morning, following roads and footpaths to the Scouts County campsite near Pencarrow House, Bodmin.
They camped here with all the other teams and woke to a very frosty morning on Sunday. After breakfast they then went along more roads and footpaths to eventually end up at Port Isaac. The walk was 34 miles long and Bude Explorers completed it in 11 hours and 25 minutes, smashing all their previous times.
They finished with a few blisters and aching muscles, but it was a great weekend, and they look forward to doing it again next year.
Bude Beavers also took part in the 'Beaver Challenge', organised by Mid-Cornwall District Scouts on April 17.
They did a walk around the Scouts County campsite and Pencarrow grounds. Along their route they stopped off at bases to take part in activities.
There was a fantastic turn out from the group and they all really enjoyed themselves, taking home a Beaver challenge badge at the end.
