CORNWALL Council and Jobcentre Plus are staging 'one stop shops' events in Bude and Launceston during July which are aimed at providing information for residents who are unemployed, have recently been made redundant or who are at risk or have been affected by redundancy.

The 'Cornwall Works Well' events will be staged in Bude on July 8, and Launceston on July 10, from 12 noon to 7pm and will include open access advice desks, covering employment, personal finance and allowances, training, redundancy support, business start up, housing and allowances, health and family services as well as business support.

A series of workshops will also be run providing information and advice on employment, debt management, volunteering as well as health and lifestyle skills. Topics will range from personal career planning, CV writing and interview skills, effective job searching, getting a job through volunteering, and making the most of your money.

The events are being supported by a wide range of agencies and organisations, including Cornwall Council, Jobcentre Plus, Citizens Advice Bureaux, Next Step, Business Link, Rezolve, Cornwall Volunteers, Health Champions, Truro College, Cornwall College, Cornwall Works Plus, Link into Learning, A4E, TUC Crunch Project, Temp staffing agencies, Pentreath and Real Choices.

"The aim of these events is to provide information and advice to anyone who has either lost their jobs or who is at risk of being made redundant," said Tom Flanagan, Director of Environment, Planning and Regeneration for Cornwall Council. "Although there is a high level of support available when a large company or organisation announces wide spread redundancies, the same support is often not available if small numbers of people are involved."

Sue Kessell from Jobcentre Plus said: "We are pleased to be working with Cornwall Council to provide extra help for local people to get them back into work as quickly as possible."
