TEEING off at Kivells Holsworthy auction room was the Sports and Pastimes Auction, which included a collection of over 120 Hickory shaft golf clubs.

The collection was assigned to Kivells from the estate of the late Mr George Brown of Abbotsham and was among the 450 lots up for auction.

The golf clubs had been collected by Mr Brown in the 1960s – beyond the collection included several longnose golf clubs.

The star of the auction was a longnose club made by William Park (1833-1903) of Musselborough, Scotland.

With an initial bid of £100 furious bidding between the room and the internet soon saw the price fly, finally selling for £520 to a bidder in Italy.

Other longnose clubs sold at £210, £130, £110, £75 and various others to £30.

Among the Hickory shaft clubs was an R Simpson Carnoustie patent metal-headed club, which went for £380.

Also auctioned on the day were three others clubs, which sold at £250, six Standard Golf Company aluminium headed clubs at £180 and two Gibson Sunday clubs at £110.

Other golfing items sold on the day included a collage of black and white photographs selling at £140, four 1960’s wrapped golf balls at £48 and a Royal Doulton figure group named ‘The Burn at St Andrews’ at £60.

Non-golfing items included 60 fishing reels topping at £40 each, 50 fishing rods at £48 each, Joe Davis’ snooker cue at £70, a group of Golf books at £240, bound Cycling magazines at £150 and eight Royal Doulton, famous Cricketer, Toby jugs at £140.

There are more Sporting, Country Pursuits and Pastime Auctions planned, with single entires and full collections being accepted.
