AT the recent annual meeting of the Launceston branch of the Royal Naval Association, officers were elected for the forthcoming year.

The elected officers are: President, Roger Richardson-Bunbury; vice-presidents, Edwin Pearce and Doug Hooper; Chairman, Sid Salter; vice-chairman, Nigel Riley; secretary, Christine Rowe; treasurer, Peter Rowe; welfare officer, Chris Loft; standard bearer, Nigel Riley.

Over the last year members have been busy with social lunches, attendance at the flag raising for Armed Forces Day at the Castle, Falmouth Sea Sunday, RAFA service at Kilkhampton and the Remembrance Day parade.

At the end of May 2016, a wreath was laid at the War Memorial to remember 100 years since the Battle of Jutland, which was the largest Naval battle of the First World War and the last major battle fought primarily by battleships in world history.

In September 2016, some members went on a boat trip around the breakwater in Plymouth, which was very much enjoyed by all on a good day for boats on the Sound.

Any ex-Naval or Marine servicemen are welcome to join the association, for social events and a little fundraising.

The meetings of the Launceston branch are held on the first Friday of each month at Edymead, the British Legion building, opposite the Post’s offices at 7.30pm.
