BUDE Rubbish Action Group founder, Paul Crum, has been investigating how chain stores in the town are dealing with rubbish accumulating in the area.

Paul approached the manager of Bude’s B&M store, James, to highlight his concerns with the amount of rubbish that builds up around the store, which is located on the Binhamy retail park. He said: “James has explained to me that the cut-through at the back of the store is where most of the rubbish accumulates. He has taken photos and sent this to his higher management, and has asked if it could be fenced off.

“He also pointed out that it would not be possible to place a rubbish bin outside the store as they have no skips to empty it into. All the packaging that the store produces is sent back to the central depot to be recycled. He also said that the staff do go out and pick rubbish.”

Paul has also approached nearby store Lidl to find out how they differ from B&M, and said: “Lidl, on the other hand, take care of their surroundings with contractors and staff picking litter. This, as you can understand, is a different lease to B&M, hence that is why their grounds look in a better state of repair.

“James has taken my concerns very seriously and has my contact details that he will be passing on to the area manager, who I hope will contact me for a site meeting to discuss a resolution to this matter.

“All in all it was a good morning at the retail park! Love where you live, love Bude!”
