THE new nighttime landing lights, installed at Bradworthy Playing Fields, to enable the Devon Air Ambulance to carry out rescue missions later into the evening, were officially switched on on Wednesday, March 22.
The Devon Air Ambulance (DAA) is now able to carry out rescue missions 24 hours a day and needs suitable lighting in order to make landing safer and more efficient — those precious seconds can really count when it comes to saving lives.
To enable nighttime landing of the helicopter the DAA Trust is encouraging communities to help provide that lighting.
Bradworthy Parish Council recently launched a ‘nighttime landing’ light at the town’s playing fields.
This would not have been possible without the support of local sponsors and businesses, in particular Wicketts Garage to whose building the electricity supply is connected; Keith Bailey Plant Hire for groundworks; Bradworthy Academy PTA for allowing the pole to be erected on their land; Lynsey Wade and Kymble Eldridge who organised fundraising events; Torridge District and Devon County Councillors for help in securing grants; Toby Russell the community helipads development officer, and Pam Brewer the parish clerk who co-ordinated the operation.
