THE Dunheved Bowling Club lent a helping hand and saved the Woburn Residents’ Association’s carol service when bad weather threatened to cancel the event completely.

Woburn Residents’ Association were due to hold their annual ‘Carols on the Green’ event on Sunday, December 16.

The tents had been erected, the Christmas lights were up and the mulled wine and mince pies were ready for residents to attend at 6pm. Unfortunately, at 5.15pm strong gusts of wind damaged the tent supports causing the committee to hastily cancel the event due to safety reasons.

Determined not to call the event off entirely, Ken Beale from the events team approached resident and bowler Colin Fishleigh, to enquire if Dunheved Bowling Club would be able to help out.

Following a few phone calls the club offered a date when the association could use the facilities at the clubhouse which was eagerly accepted.

Despite it being so close to Christmas and other events taking place around the town, more than 40 people attended and a great time was had by all.

Woburn Residents’ Association expressed its thanks to the Dunheved Bowling Club for making the evening a great success and also Shelley Vanstone of Tesco for supplying the mince pies and cream.

It is the committee’s intention to raise funds to replace their existing tents with something stronger for the future.
