Launceston author, Sandra Maizels has been supported by Rotary Clubs across the country in raising money from book sales.

Her children’s book, ‘Dear Dragon’ was originally stories written for Sandra’s grandchildren in Australia, but it received such favourable reviews from the New South Wales Department of Education, that it has since been used to raise funds for End Polio Now.

Since its launch at the end of June it has been supported by Rotary Clubs nationwide, and has sold over 1,000 copies, providing enough money to immunise 45 children all over the world against polio.

Interestingly all money raised is tripled by Bill Gates — with the goal of completely eliminating the dreadful disease. To celebrate World Polio Day on October 23 Sandra read excerpts from her book to children visiting Launceston’s library.

Suitable for children aged four to nine the book is on sale in the Rotary Community Shop in Southgate Street, priced at £3.
