A VERY successful weekend of lakeside and woodland walks with teas in the marquee was held at Wolf Valley, Broadwoodwidger, on May 21 and 22.
Despite the Saturday being very wet, a brave few arrived dressed for the occasion.
The Sunday was lovely weather when a large number of visitors enjoyed the beautiful surroundings not normally open to the public.
A total in excess of £1,000 was raised for the Broadwoodwidger Community Hub Project.
This project was started two years ago when the owners of the wind turbine close to Roadford were asked if they would donate a sum of money to a community project, which they consented to.
The church was approached and agreed in principal to grant a long lease on the church room, which is in need of extensive repairs.
Grants from Torridge District Council have seen the total rise, and the committee is now in the process of looking forward to being able to start the project which will see an extension added to the side of the building for disabled toilets, plus a new floor, ceiling, kitchen and heating to the existing building.
Provision will be made for disabled access.
With no school or shop in the parish (the second largest parish in the county of Devon) and many new houses being developed in the village alone, it will be a welcome meeting place.
This was shown over the weekend with much support being given to the fundraising event.
A spokesperson said: “If you wish to have any further information on the project, please have a look at the website www.broadwoodwidger.com where details are displayed of those to contact should you wish to become involved.”
