BLEND Bude Youth Collective had a great day recently providing assistance to marathon runners.
On June 9, a small group of Blenders organised a waterstation stop for the tsunami marathon from Westward Ho! to Bude along the coastal path — a gruelling 36-mile run along some of the hardest terrain in the South West.
Among the runners were a group of Bude men running to raise funds for local youngster Corey Alway.
Blend decided that they all needed a little extra support, so at Duckpool beach they set up a feast of fuel foods to help push the runners along after the hardest, highest and scariest section of the run.
Jamie Wright, from Blend Bude, said: “A massive thank you to Waitrose, Co-op and Morrisons for donating lots of lovely produce for us to give out to the runners.”
Bina Westaway, a Blender, said: “It was a great day. When the runners came through they loved the station, thanking us for all our efforts and especially for the buckets of cold water!”
Jamie added: “An act of kindness like this really inspires you to do good — the gratitude on their faces was its own reward.”
Blend Bude managed to raise £22 for Corey Alway from generous donations given by spectators and supporters.
