THE Bishop of Truro, the Rt Rev Tim Thornton was in Launceston on Tuesday to do the honours at the opening of the town's Foodbank charity shop on Newport Industrial Estate.

The shop, which is opposite Jewsons, will enable the Foodbank to be self-funding and to develop the project further in the town.

Bishop Tim officially opened the shop on what was his second visit to Launceston Foodbank — he came with The Archbishop of Canterbury on his visit in 2013.

Foodbank volunteers, management committee members, Foodbank part-time staff and mayor and mayoress Dave and Carole Gordon joined in the celebration, along with customers. Tea and cakes were supplied by Tesco and volunteers added to the event.
