LAUNCESTON Lions president Jo Heard and fellow Lion Helen Bailey recently attended the Area Resource Base Unit at St Stephens Community Academy School, Launceston, to present a cheque for £200 for equipment for youngsters with special education needs in the school, the funds were raised at the summer bingo.
Alison Bailey, one of the assistants at the unit, who also accepted the cheque, said: “The donation will be spent on mirrors for the unit to help the children with development of recognition and is part of a new part of the training the staff have attended.”
Class teacher Jessica Carew and the children were very busy working together during the visit, while the children were praised for how they engaged they were with the activities.
Children attending the unit come from Launceston and several surrounding towns, there are eight young students in the unit currently and they have a wonderful area in which to learn and develop their individual talents and skills.
The Lions have helped several of the local schools with equipment as part of the supporting Youth Lions have as one of the signature projects.
