PORT Isaac RNLI was recently presented a generous cheque for £1,500, by Sarah Coates, as a donation to ongoing lifeboat operations.

Sarah Coates, the organiser of the Big Swim event, received a warm welcome by Port Isaac RNLI, upon her arrival with her son, Raffa.

Sarah’s efforts have raised thousands of pounds in funds for a number of charities over the past four years; she is planning to continue this with her Big Swim event, which will be held on Saturday, August 30 this year.

Chairman, Bob Bulgin, explained whilst thanking Sarah, that an average of over 22 people each day are rescued by lifeboats operating from 236 stations around the 19,000 miles of coastline.

The rescues made on a daily basis by the RNLI wouldn’t be possible without the donations from organisations, dedicated fund aisers and individuals such as Sarah. Their work and support is essential to keeping the institution afloat, and providing the best boats and crew equipment to the volunteer crews.

Mr Bulgin added: “Without the constant support and donations, the RNLI would cease to exist beyond a nine month period, so thank you to Sarah Coates and her Big Swim team for their generosity.”
